There were green anoles all over Houston and Huntsville, Texas when I was growing up.
They are really cool lizards and make decent pets, if you have enough space and can keep them warm and moist. Gotta be careful handling them, because their little tails will pop right off. They grow back, but it takes a while. Their colors change slightly, according to mood and atmosphere. My granddad used to pick them up and put them on his ears. They clamp down with their little jaws and hang on, just like bright green earrings. Kinda funny, but probably not the nicest thing to do!
I love iguanas. Think they are really cool.
My fascination with lizards started when I was a kid. They ran all over my grandparents' yard... (little green ones, NOT iguanas!) My sixth-grade teacher had an iguana in her classroom. The kid who had the best deportment score got to take the critter home for any long breaks we had from school and take care of it for her. I got the lizard once and I tell you, I was the hit of the neighborhood (my mom wasn't real thrilled, though)
I don't see many garter snakes anymore. I used to catch them all the time. My hiking companion heard this garter snake moving through the grass. I have video uploaded if you want to see Petey in action. He is quite docile and I have never been bit by a garter snake but I know some who have.
Tell me what you think of snakes! |
