This guy visits our deck almost every morning. This day it entered the barbeque through the broken front window and was eating off the grill!

This little rabbit is treading on dangerous grounds. Flip through the pictures, you'll see. White just doesn't blend in during the summer.

These are an unlikely pair and no, they do not stay together. When introduced they didn't seem to care about the other.

When I was maybe 7, we started raising rabbits.

My favorite breed was the Dutch... a miniature rabbit whose maximum weight is maybe 5 1/2 pounds.

Really cute, and they come in black and white, brown and white, gray and white.

What's your favorite rabbit breed?

I love rabbits as pets... but it just creeps me out to see them running around in the house.

I grew up on a farm and we raised rabbits commercially. Some were pets, and some were for sale as pets, but many of them were raised to feed hungry people.

Rabbits BITE. Rabbits scratch and kick and squeal. Rabbits eat their own young and that of other rabbits. I just don't think they make good housepets.

And I think they are difficult to litterbox train.

What do you think?

My two favorite pigs were named Agnes and Ernestine. I was a big Charlotte's Web fan when I was a kid.

Because I lived on a farm, we had hogs. Had to raise them to butcher for the most part, but the best mama pigs got to stay for years.

I don't know where I got the name Agnes... probably from a character in the Anne of Green Gables books. Agnes was a Hampshire. Black with a white belt just behind her shoulder.

Ernestine was named for the sweetest teacher I ever knew. My second grade teacher in Talihena, Oklahoma... Ernestine was a red hog, a Duroc.

Their babies had to either go to auction, or to slaughter. The ones we raised for slaughter were named Bacon, Sausage, and Pork Chop (and the names got re-used every year).

Joey is Sleepy here. Some think they are just strange and their smallness makes them cute. If you like squirrels I suppose you will like Sugar Gliders.

These rabbits are kind of wild. They don't live in a cage but you can hand feed them, especially in winter!

Little did I know growing up. We always had these fun little creatures running about but I never had one as a pet. I introduced them to my upstairs neighbors who have kids ages 6 and 8 (I believe) If you get them pretty young they can be quite affectionate!
I have posted pictures of Foo & Snowball. Both were born outside on a ranch and I captured them. They have a wonderful life now with their new family.

Sugar Glider Lovers out there! I just found out about these creatures this month and I love my little Joey. Here he is checking himself out in the mirror. I would love to chat with other sugar glider lovers here in Bozeman!

I grew up on a farm and we always had lots of animals... rabbits, pigs, chickens, ducks, guineas, turkeys, cows, a donkey, horses, dogs, hamsters, cats, quail.

I miss those days. Loved having all those living critters around.

There were times that farm life was difficult for a kid. It was hard to understand that certain animals were not to become pets, but that they were meant to feed our family. It was really difficult to help butcher animals that you had raised from babies.

One thing that helped in our family was naming the pets cute pet names, like Peaches, Ernestine, Lightning, Nutmeg, Thunder, Jake, Gypsy, etc... and naming the food animals things like Pork Chops, Sausage, Hamburger, Steak, and Stew.

My friend and I have rabbits that we are planning on breeding sometime in the spring again. They are mini rex rabbits and are extremely cute. When we do have babies, we like to give them away to good homes, so if anyone would like a rabbit as a pet, please let me know !

The pic is of Tyson, the dad. Gizzy, my friends rabbit is black and tan. I have a picture of 4 of their babies also up, so feel free to take a look.

(those babies already have homes, so were going to give away the next batch of rabbits)
