In the future Gallatin County is proposing to construct a enclosed dog park at the Gallatin Regional Park. This change would mandate that any dogs outside the Dog Park would be on leash.
Currently there are no requirements for keeping dogs on leash at the Gallatin Regional Park. I'd appreciate any comments on:
Dog Park, Yes or No
Size of Park needed
Features needed inside the Dog Park.
I found a lost beagle without a collar in front of the theater at the mall in Bozeman. I took her home with me, so she wouldn't get hit by a car. If you think this is your beagle, please call me at 249-0458. Thanks! -Aaron
I am outraged by the news of a Bozeman Police Officer using a Shotgun to subdue a Dog. I am sorry but the dog did not bite anyone, and was really staying on (protecting) her own yard. As the cop approached with a Shotgun the dog became more aggressive (YEAH OF COURSE YOU ARE ON HER PROPERTY WITH A WEAPON)I very much deeply feel as though use of Non lethal force should have been used BEFORE the use of a Shotgun. Even more disheartening is the comments of many people in this town who praise the cops actions. Praise and commendation would very much have been in order had the situation been difused via non lethal means. Some comments were, "good job another Mutt is gone" or something like that. What is wrong with people in this town? Someone/Family just lost a member of their family, the dog was more than likely scared as more and more attention was drawn to her property, then a cop shows uo with a shotgun, not to mention there was another dog inside the house. After the dog was shot twice she ran inside the house,...
I own a 40 pound, 4 year old Australian Cattle Dog and recently acquired a puppy of the same breed. My current landlord allows me to have both dogs in the apartment where I live, but my question for you multiple dog owners in Bozeman is, is it harder to find a place to live if you have 2 dogs?
I found that while looking for apartments/houses to rent in Bozeman, it is possible to find pretty decent places that allow dogs. I'm wondering now with 2 dogs how much harder it's going to be when I inevitably have to move again. My current roommate is not much of a dog person, and I'm thinking that moving is going to happen sooner rather than later.
Thanks all for the input.

Dogs we found near Three Forks 7/26 have been claimed by their owners.
I am sure this is something that has been discussed before, but I didn't see a way to look at past discussions.
I just recently got my first dog, and I enjoy taking her around town with me. I know I can take her into the pet stores, and most (if not all) of the hardware stores. I also know that for health reasons, she can not enter the food stores.
Are there other pet friendly stores in town? I would be willing to change my place of shopping for "xyz" if I could take my dog with me.
Thanks.

As a local rescue director I want to ask everyone to please consider getting their next dog or cat from a rescue group. We get in many different pure bred dogs and cats. Many only need a home and are not coming from a abused or neglected situation. If you would like to become a dog foster family rescues are always in need of loving homes to place dogs until a loving forever home can be found. Rescues do not sell dogs. All dogs and cats are placed via an adoption process. The director of each group reviews all the applications and places the dog in the home best suited for the animal. Adoption fees vary. Most of the time it is directly related to vet costs to make the dog or cat adoptable. Spay/Neuter cost, vaccinations, other medical isses. Usually there is a small paperwork fee or they will ask for a free will donation to help other dogs with medical care or to help pay for food for the other animals in rescue. Please help when you can. Groups need new or useable, clean washable bedding, collars,...
Just to let everyone know .. The Gallatin Valley Spay Neuter Coalition is planning a low cost vaccination clinic for Gallatin Valley in Mid-May. They will then do a Spay Neuter Clinic in Mid-June. To get on their waiting list for these services email the group at gallatinvalleyspayneuter@hotmail.com You will get back a auto reply with all the info that is required to get on the waiting list. All their appointments come from the list so the earlier you get on the waiting list the better your chances at getting an appointment. You can call also at 595-3333 It is a message phone and they check it about every three days or so. Please leave as much info about your animal as possible and an email address if possible. It may take some time to get back to you.. But they will put your name on the list. Again the phone number is 595-3333 and the email is gallatinvalleyspayneuter@hotmail.com
SENATE BILL 344 TO BAN WOLF HYBRIDS (dont they know that all dogs decended from wolves, therefore you could argue that all dogs are hybrids???? Just a thought)
The bill passed the Montana Senate 50 to 0 and will be heard by the House Fish, Wildlife & Parks Committee on March 17 at 3:00 RM 152. The legislation could potentially affect anyone with a northern breed dog (e.g., huskies, malamutes) since the Fish & Wildlife Forensics Lab in Ashland Oregon classifies any dog with one single sequence of wolf DNA a hybrid. The bill relies heavily on genetic testing. The woman who sent out the info this bill spoke with the chief researcher at UCLA working on genetic testing to differentiate dogs from wolves and he indicated the method is experimental, has not been published nor peer reviewed, and wouldn’t stand up in a court of law. The remainder of this post is from her: According to the bill, existing wolf dogs of any % would have to be registered and tattooed and the state would have the right to seize any unregistered...

Tiny Tails is a rescue group dedicated to the welfare of dogs in Montana. We recently took in a little dog that was found at a rest stop just off of hwy 90 east near Butte. We are trying to locate his owner. If we do not find the owner this dog will be going to the Gallatin Valley Spay Neuter's clinic on Sunday. This dog will become available for adoption on Jan 20th. Please call to I.D. 406-284-3365 or cell phone at 580-2006
I recently sent out two informal surveys: the first to trainers and dog sport competitors across the U.S. , the second to family pet owners that are actively training their dogs in the Gallatin Valley .
Trainers and dog sport competitors were asked, “Do you use dog parks, why or why not?” 94% said no, the three main reasons were; they know good dog behavior and see too many disengaged owners allowing their dog to be inappropriate with other dogs, untrained people with untrained dogs, not worth the stress or the risk. The 6% that do use dog parks had specific criteria; certain dog parks at certain times of the day, only with known dogs and responsible owners, only in off leash ‘open space’ dog areas, to work their dog with disc/ball focus not to play with other dogs. The survey to family pet owners asked a variety of questions regarding how they manage/socialize their dogs while out and about. The answers paint an accurate picture with what is happening in and about town. 99% of people surveyed allow their dogs...
Don't make the common mistake of thinking that only mutts or "bad" dogs are at the shelter - check the website at www.heartofthevalleyshelter.org right now and you'll find awesome purebred dogs: Lucy the American Staffordshire, Hojo the Black Lab, Little Mac the Blue Heeler, Sammie the German Shorthaired Pointer, Rocco the Treeing Walker Coonhound, Nikum the Rottie, and more! Check out the photo gallery above to see their smiling faces... (Of course, mutts are my favorite breed of dog - and the shelter has those too!)
